As people get busier and busier with their lives, career and work, often the things most important to them, get neglected. The path to a more fulfilling life is to honor your values on a daily basis. But how can you honor your values if they are not crystal clear to you, or if you have not even thought about them in a long time?

Here are a few ways to help clarify your values so you can raise your awareness and start to honor them more in your life, career or business. The faster you start to honor these values more, the more fulfillment you will experience.

A Special & Memorable Experience
Think about a time in your life, a moment in time, when life was sweet. A moment or experience that was particularly poignant and rewarding. Where were you? Who was with you? What were you feeling at that time? Now, notice what values were being honored in this experience.

Example A: Your peak experience takes you to a time when you graduated school. You were so proud and others were there to witness you. Maybe “learning” or “knowledge” or “accomplishment” could be a value for you to explore.

Example B: Your peak experience takes you to a time when you were on a calm lake with somone close to you. Maybe “connection” or “peace” or “natural beauty” could be a value.

Hidden Values
What makes you angry and upset? What burns you up inside when you witness it or experience it?

Example A: People who do not tell the truth is what comes to mind. So we flip that over and identify that you greatly value “honestly” and “truth.”

Example B: You hate being stuck in traffic more than anything. It makes you hot under your skin. Maybe you feel trapped or that you have no control? So we flip that over and identify that “freedom” may be an important value for you.

Things You Must Have
Beyond the basics of food and shelter, what do you have to have in your life to feel fulfilled? What can you not live without? Partnership? Nature? Creativity? Adventure? Those things that you must have are core values.

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous?’ Actually who are you not to be? Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. And as we let our light shine we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” -Marianne Williamson (Nelson Mandela used this passage in his 1994 Inaugural Speech.)

This applies to life, business and sales. It is important as a business leader or a sales professional that you do not hold back who you are. Sell as your authentic and most genuine self. You will have the best results when you are in tune with your values and are honoring them daily in your sales efforts to attract new clients.

It is my belief that you must first become highly aware of your own values before you can design the most effective sales system and process to establish new client partnerships. With my training in professional coaching (career, business, & life) combined with my sales expertise, I help my clients achieve breakthrough results. I encourage you to evaluate your own values to ensure they are in line with how you are seeking to establish new clients.

As a professionally trained coach in life coaching as well as business and sales coaching, I can provide a total support system for my clients to reach breakthrough results.

In Built to Last, Porras and Collins learned that their prior beliefs were misfires. During a six year research process, they “unlearned” much of what they learned with large corporations’ successes. In place of former beliefs lays a new groundwork for what exemplifies visionary companies. Here are some of the former myths removed with their research:

A great idea is needed to start companies

Visionary organizations need charismatic leaders

Maximizing profits is the dominate goal with visionary companies

Visionary companies focus on beating competitors

Hiring outsiders as CEO’s is the best way to spark an organization

Some of the core beliefs Porras and Collins discuss in Built to Last include:

Preserving a core ideology

The BHAG (Big Hairy Audacious Goals) concept

Owning a cult-like culture

Trying new things

Refusing the idea of a “great idea” to start a company

Consistent innovation

How do you hold yourself accountable in your life or in your business? What is accountability to you? Where is it present and where does it not exist? What is the impact in your life or your business if there is no accountability?

From my coaching perspective on accountability with my clients, it does not include judgement or blame. If someone does not follow-through, I ask them what they took away from the experience and what they learned about themselves. I help them uncover what prevented them from accomplishing a goal, so they can move forward more effectively next time.

I help them learn to hold themselves accountable so that they can learn to self-manage. I do help to hold my clients accountabile to their visions and goals, but I realize that the learning that takes place from the experience is what is most valuable. Sometimes we uncover a new action that needs to take place to reach their commitments, or we find something that works great, and apply it to other areas of their business or life.

It is also important to mention that with each client I partner with, we custuom design how much accountability is needed, and tweak it along the way for maximum results.

Think about ways that you can hold yourself accountable. When you don’t complete a task or a goal, think about what stopped you or slowed you down. Come up with solutions, so that going forward you can experience better results.
